Flower Named B1G Defensive POW
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana senior goalkeeper Shannon Flower picked up her first weekly award from the Big Ten on Monday, as she was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts this past weekend.
The Columbus, Ohio, native stopped all three shots on goal that she faced on Friday at Ohio University, helping the Hoosiers to a 1-0 win in the season opener. Then she returned to the pitch on Sunday and coordinated a defensive effort in front of her that only allowed Georgia Southern to get two shots off the entire game and neither one was on goal as Indiana cruised to the 5-0 win.
It marked the third and fourth career shutouts for Flower and she is the first IU player to be named Defensive Player of the Week since Sarah Stone garnered the honor last year on Oct. 1, 2012.
Flower and the Hoosiers return to action this weekend on the road, travelling to Milwaukee on Friday and Loyola (IL) on Sunday.
