JMU Wins Third Straight, 1-0 at Georgia State
ATLANTA, Oct. 23, 2011 — A goal by redshirt senior Jimmy Simpson (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) lifted the 20th-ranked James Madison men's soccer team to a 1-0 win at Georgia State in Colonial Athletic Association action Sunday afternoon.
JMU, which won its third game in a row, upped its record to 11-2-1 overall. The Dukes remained tied with Old Dominion for first place in the league standings with a 7-1-0 record.
Georgia State, which lost for the first time in eight home games this season, has a 10-5-1 overall record and is 4-4 in CAA play.
Simpson's goal came on a header off of a crossing pass from redshirt freshman Jamal Umar (Herndon, Va./Chantilly) in the 69 minute. It was Simpson's third score of the season, and all three have been game-winners.
JMU redshirt senior goalkeeper Justin Epperson (Herndon, Va./Oakton) made five saves to earn his eighth shutout of the season.
Georgia State goalie Vincent Foermer made just one save.
The Dukes play their final regular-season home game against Old Dominion on Oct. 26 before closing out the season with road matches at Drexel (Oct. 29) and Hofstra (Nov. 5).
