MONMOUTH DEFEATS LIU BROOKLYN, 1-0
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Senior captain Ryan Clark (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) headed in a cross from fellow captain Joseph Schmid (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) in the 46th minute as the Monmouth University men’s soccer team defeated LIU Brooklyn, 1-0, Sunday afternoon on LIU Field. With the win, the Hawks improve to 10-4-3 (5-2-2 NEC), while the Blackbirds fall to 2-12-2 (1-6-1 NEC).
Exactly one minute into the second half, Schmid found Clark in the box for the game-winning goal. Senior captain goalkeeper Alex Blackburn (Natick, Mass./Natick) made two saves in posting his eighth clean sheet of the season. Counterpart Nathan Stockie was peppered with 16 shots, eight on net, and made seven saves.
The Hawks outshot the Blackbirds, 16-9, while also taking a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Monmouth concludes its regular season at home next Sunday, when it plays host to Sacred Heart on Senior Day. Kickoff from The Great Lawn is scheduled for 1 p.m.
