It’s that time of the year – no, not Halloween – to update the men’s college soccer player rankings for Division I.

The national top 100 is a list of the best players from the first half of the college season. Note: freshmen are not included in the midseason update but will be included in the postseason list.

Maryland forward and reigning MAC Hermann Trophy winner Patrick Mullins keeps his spot at the top of the rankings. Mullins leads Maryland in scoring with ten goals and four assists on the season. His recent run of form has propelled Maryland to undefeated record in ACC play heading into the week.

California center back Steve Birnbaum climbs all the way up the rankings into the No. 2 spot. Birnbaum, who entered the season as the No. 15 player in the Pac-12 preseason player rankings, made the large jump after being easily one of the most valuable players through the first half of the season. The senior has been dominant in every sense of the word for the Golden Bears in their run to the consensus No. 1 ranking in every major poll.

Georgetown senior Steve Neumann takes up the No. 3 spot. The Hoya has six goals and three assists on the season. His quality on the ball has also helped open up chances for fellow striker Brandon Allen for the Big East squad.

Harrison Shipp, the Notre Dame senior, also makes a big jump into the top five. The attacking midfielder has been the main weapon for the Irish in breaking down defenses that are starting to shift more and more players behind the ball.

Connecticut goalkeeper Andre Blake rounds out the top five. The minor slip for the Jamaican can be attributed to an injury that kept him out for a brief period as well as a slightly underwhelming season so far.
