ODU Hosts South Carolina

SOCCER MONARCHS HOST SOUTH CAROLINA WEDNESDAY NIGHT

NORFOLK, VA—The ODU Soccer Monarchs (7-5-1/2-2-1) return home to host the Gamecocks of South Carolina Wednesday night in a Conference USA match at the ODU Soccer Complex. Game time is 7 p.m. and tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for faculty staff, military, youth and senior citizens.

Follow all the action with livestreaming on Monarch Media with ODU Director of Broadcasting Ted Alexander providing the play-by-play and former Monarch assistant coach Mark Waite providing the color. Wednesday night will be Pizza Slice Night for the first 200 ODU Students into the stadium compliments of Aramark.

THE SERIES: ODU leads, 3-1. The Monarchs defeated the Gamecocks last year, 2-1 in Columbia.

ABOUT THE GAMECOCKS (7-8/2-4) : South Carolina is led in scoring by Mikkel Knudsen with six goals, three assists and 15 total points. He ranks fourth in C-USA in scoring.  Kurtis Turner and Ive Burnett have seven points each on three goals and one assist. Marco Velez is between the pipes for South Carolina with a 1.73 goals against average and 40 total saves. South Carolina lost its last match to Kentucky, 4-3.

THE MONARCHS : Junior midfielder Ryan Condotta (Keller, TX.) and sophomore forward Jesse Miralrio (Arlington, TX.) lead the Monarchs with seven total points each on three goals and one assist. Graduate student Christian Schroeer (Petershagan, Germany ) is the team leader in assists with three which ranks him 10th in C-USA.  Freshman Tyler Edwards (Carrolton, GA.) has two goals and sophomore Nicholas Hutchinson (Allentown, PA.)  has two assists.   Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Alex Tiesenhausen (Graz, Austria) leads the league in saves with 63 (39th nationally) and is fifth in goals against average at 1.04.

DID YOU KNOW: Six ODU opponents are ranked in this week’s soccer polls. Charlotte, and North Carolina are in the top 10 while New Mexico, Kentucky, Virginia, and UNC Wilmington are in the top 25.  South Carolina and South Florida were in the top 25 earlier this season.

ODU head coach Alan Dawson, the school’s winningest coach entered the season ranked 13th nationally among active coaches. He is 329-141-92 in 26 overall seasons, and 200-109-32 in 18 seasons at ODU. Dawson won his 200th game with a 2-1 victory over then No. 4 Charlotte on Oct. 18.   

ODU HOSTS THE 2014 C-USA MEN’S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIPS
Old Dominion will host the top seven finishers in the regular season standings for 2014 C-USA Men’s Soccer Championship, Nov. 12-16 at the Old Dominion Soccer Complex in Norfolk, Virginia. Tickets for the tournament are: $20 for adult, and $ 10 for youth. Single game tickets are: $10 for adults, $5 for youth, and $3 for groups of 10 or more. Admission is free for all C-USA students with a valid school ID.
