Match Fit Academy FC Black U16 (NJ) 3-0 BRYC 99 Elite U16 (VA)
Although Match Fit Academy didn’t get the first quality scoring chance of the game, it dominated the entire game in route to a 3-0 victory, earning a spot in the U16 Premier’s championship game tomorrow in the top bracket.
“We soaked up all pressure earlier, early on in the game, and then got a goal before the break,” Match Fit head coach Luke Tyler said. “We got the third and the game was over, so it was a very, very good job for us today.
BRYC’s first and only quality scoring opportunity came in the 20th minute when George Smith put a terrific shot on net, but Match Fit’s goalkeeper, Luca Espada, made an even more spectacular diving save on the ball and secured it so no rebound came out.
From then on out, it was all Match Fit. Putting his team on the board first was Brandon Kendall. He found the ball after a free kick by teammate Brenden Eagen was shot directly into the wall and bounced around a bit before Kendall could land a foot on it and put it past a sprawling goalkeeper.
Vincent Lamina put in a left footer in the 46th minute from just inside the left side of the box. Nigel Woodroffe capped Match Fit’s scoring in the 59th minute after he played a left-footed shot off of a corner kick past the goalie to the right side of the net.
Solar Chelsea 99B Red Passos U17 (TX) 2-0 Carolina Elite SA CESA 98B Premier U17 (SC)
Solar Chelsea, the No. 5 team in Top Drawer Soccer’s Club Soccer Team Rankings, didn’t get exactly what they came to Orlando for, but they will play in the third-place game tomorrow for the top division of U17 Showcase. Carolina, the No. 9 team, couldn’t find a way to figure out Solar Chelsea’s goalkeeper, Edgar Davila, and was sent home after the 2-0 loss.
“We tried to do what we do best, and that’s possess the ball and attack people,” Solar Chelsea head coach Nuno Passos said. “Edgar made a huge, huge save, probably midway through the half … I’m looking and I see Edgar flying through the air and makes an unbelievable save, confidence builds, gives us a little bit more energy.”
Davila was the most valuable player for Solar Chelsea after making about seven key saves that were potential game changers. The most notable was in the 70th minute. Carolina’s Quinn McNeill had a key opportunity in deep and got a solid left-footed shot off of a waist-high ball, but Davila dove across the net and batted the ball out of the air before it crossed the goal line.
Nicko West and Carlos Flores got the goals for Solar Chelsea, and they came about 30 seconds apart, giving the team the momentum it needed to make a push and hold on for the victory.
West received a long pass about 30 yards out, beat two defenders to the outside, cut toward the middle and put home a left-footed shot from the left side as he was sliding to the ground.
Flores’ goal had the same attributes, except his was from right to left and he remained on both feet after the ball made its way past the keeper.
Michigan Wolves-Hawks 00 U16 (MI) 2-1 Louisiana Fire Juniors 00B U16 (LA)
Michigan went up 2-0 in the 19th minute and managed to maintain possession for the rest of the game and cruise to a much-needed win, which put them in the championship game tomorrow for the U16 Premier division.
“For some reason, we kind of stopped playing a little, they scored a good goal and it was a battle right toward the end,” Michigan head coach David Hicklin said.
The Wolves got a left-footed goal from deep in the box in the 17th minute to gain the advantage. The goal off the chest ball came from Keegan Gormley on a set piece from Michael Franciso from the right corner.
Louis Sala was next in line for the Wolves when he put home a sliding left-footer from the left side off of another set piece from the corner that barely snuck past the Louisiana goalkeeper.
Louisiana got a break in the box when a foul set it up for a penalty kick. Christian De Gracia got his name called to take it but his right-footer to the bottom left of the net was saved by the Wolves keeper.
Samuel Moses did get his team on the board in the 57th minute. Brennan Sonnier took a free kick from midfield that found the foot of Blake Robbins, who sent a perfect ball to Moses for the goal in which he was all alone with an open net.
West Florida Flames E 98 Elite U17 (FL) 3-1 Baltimore Bays Chelsea U17 (MD)
Even though West Florida tallied the first goal, they came out of the gates slow but rolled to a 3-1 victory over Baltimore with two second-half tallies that changed the game and Baltimore’s plans for tomorrow. Instead of playing in the championship game in the U17 Premier Gray division, Baltimore will be competing for a third-place trophy.
“Good recovery from the team to come back after a hard loss yesterday, and they showed character after getting a cheap penalty against them,” West Florida head coach Cornelis Van Der Luit said. “After a penalty, you can put your head down, but we turned it around right away.”
Randall Sapp got the ball rolling in the 30th minute after a set piece from Hunter Boyles was perfectly placed inside the box. Sapp found the ball and knocked it in with a flying right footer.
The 57th minute offered a bit of confusion for both sides when a yellow card was handed out inside the box, resulting in a Baltimore penalty kick. Thailek Willis got the call and answered to the bottom left corner with a scorching right-footed shot.
The Flames didn’t let that hamper their heat, though. They battled back and scored two goals 20 seconds apart. Frezghi Noel got the first when Luis Bustamante chipped a ball over a defender into the box and he was there to bury the ball to the bottom right.
Christopher Pope stuck the dagger for the Flames in the 62nd minute when he extended the lead to two goals with his right foot just 20 seconds after his teammate.
