Keeping Hold

New York Red Bulls take over the top spot in the U13 age group of the Grande Sports Academy TeamRank Top 25. In the first game back after the winter break, Red Bulls nabbed a 4-3 win over Virginia DA. Carmelo Carbone, Omre Etienne, Derek Rivera, and Joseph Zalinsky all scored in the win for Red Bulls.

LA Galaxy slips down to No. 2 in the TeamRank Top 25. Galaxy’s only setback of 2017 was a 3-3 draw against Strikers on Feb. 25. The Southern California MLS Academy has a 5-0-1 record since the start of the new year. Andre Ramos has a goal in each of the last two games. Ramos has six goals this season.

Juan Bonola and FC Golden State have been on fire this year in the Development Academy. Bonola scored three goals last week in a 3-0 win over Los Angeles United Futbol Academy. The second showdown of the season between FC Golden State and LA Galaxy is on June 3.

MLS Takeover

MLS academies continue to dominate in the U14 age group for the Grande Sports Academy TeamRank Top 25. FC Dallas is still perfect in 2017 with seven wins from seven games. U.S. U14 Boys National Team standout Dante Sealy is the leading scorer on the squad with 20 goals in 15 games. Cesar Garcia and Camilo Estrada have also been standouts from FC Dallas U14 this season.

LA Galaxy is in a close second place in the U14 boys club soccer top team ranking. Galaxy won six games so far in 2017, but has a crucial match-up this weekend against No. 20 Real So Cal. Last weekend, Galaxy defeated San Diego Surf 4-2 behind a hat-trick from Marco Ceja, who has 24 goals this season in 14 games.

De Anza Force breaks up the MLS-only party as the No. 3 team in the U14 age group. The Northern California club is riding a six-game winning streak in 2017. Two late goals from Louis Rogers helped De Anza Force capture a 3-1 win over Santa Cruz Breakers Academy last week.

National Movement

The past month has been busy in the U15 boys age group. Some of the top teams were in Vegas last week for National League play. The best of the rest were on the opposite side of the country taking part in Jefferson Cup.

For the March update to the Grande Sports Academy TeamRank Boys U15 club soccer ranking, Brausa United Futbol is the No. 1 team. The Maryland squad won Jefferson Cup last week with an impressive show. Brausa has won seven tournaments in a row this season.

Boca Juniors OC jumps into the No. 2 spot in the age group. The Cal South team went 3-0 in National League play in March and finished with a plus nine-goal differential from the three games. Boca Juniors looks like the team to watch this spring.

St. Louis Scott Gallagher - Elite 02 also had a strong showing at National League play in Nevada and jumps into the No. 3 spot. Scott Gallagher recorded wins over SC Waukesha and Midwest United, but was held to a 1-1 draw against United Soccer Academy Mount Pleasant.

Next Friday: U13, U14, and U15 Girls

Grande Sports TeamRank is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.

The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.

Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.

A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
