New head coach for U.S. U14 BNT
Brian Johnson has replaced Tony Lepore as the U.S. U14 Boys National Team head coach, U.S. Soccer spokesman Neil Buethe confirmed to TopDrawerSoccer.com on Tuesday.
Lepore informed players on Saturday night following the end of the third camp with the 2000 age group that Johnson would be his replacement. The U.S. U14 BNT used that camp as preparation for games against international competition in Croatia in May.
Lepore, who is the Director of Scouting for the Development Academy, was hired as the U15 BNT head coach in 2011 and transitioned into the role of the U14 BNT head coach for this cycle, which began in late 2013.
Johnson currently serves as the Development Academy’s Technical Advisor for the Mid-America Division. He previously coached at Ohio State, Real Salt Lake, and West Virginia. He was a member of the U.S. U20 Men’s National Team at the 1993 U20 World Cup. He played professionally for the Kansas City Wizards and Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
