Orlando City’s Adamolekun wows for Jamaica
The TopDrawerSoccer.com Homegrown Watch marches into another week with another band of top prospects on the docket. From an in-form Jamaican international coming off the tournament of his life to a Hungarian forward dominating in the heartland, this week’s glimpse carries international flair.
Nathaniel Adamolekun, Orlando City
Where prospects are concerned, key international experience is the holy grail. Development Academy time is no doubt valuable, but it can’t replicate the high-motor minutes provided by international matches. On that score, Orlando City is building well via Adamolekun, who chose Jamaica over the U.S. and Nigeria. The Jamaican international was an integral member of the nation’s U17 team that came within a whisper of qualifying for the World Cup later this year. Jamaica at times played coherent soccer with Adamolekun diving into channels and taking on defenders in one-on-one situations. In fact, he led the team with three goals from six matches. That persistence took Jamaica to a final playoff with the U.S. that ended with a loss in penalties.
