Big 12 stand-outs seek history at Nationals
July 19, 2010
Kansas Jayhawk Emily Cressy and Amanda Lisberger of the Texas Longhorns next week will power the offense as their Eagles Soccer Club Under 23 team, based in Camarillo, California, seek to become only the 2nd team in the 31 year history of USA youth and adult championships ever to win three age specific United States National soccer titles.

Colorado Rush (Littleton, CO) won the Under 17, 18, & 19 Championships a decade ago (1999-2001).  The first ever title was won in 1980 by Sting SC (Dallas, TX).  A third Big 12 stand-out, Alyssa Mautz of Texas A&M, is expected to lead the Scott Gallagher (St. Louis, MO) team.

The Under 23 US Adult Soccer Association Finals will be played concurrent with the United States Youth Soccer Under 14 through Under 19 National Championships on July 23-25, in Overland Park, Kansas.

Eight teams have qualified for the Under 23 competition. The Far West will be represented by the Eagles SC and Arizona Rush.  In the Eagles half of the draw is D’Feeters (TX), Woodbury SC (MN) and FC Delco (PA).  The AZ Rush bracket features Rochester Lazers (NY), Scott Gallagher (MO) and Dallas Premier (TX).  The full schedule, and all results, is available at:  http://www.usasa.com/schedules/2010/28837224.html.

Under head coach Vince Thomas and assistant Michael Alexander, the Eagles won two US Youth Soccer National titles – the Under 14 crown in 2004 and the Under 17 Championship in 2007.  They are a five time State Champion (2004, ‘07, ‘08, ‘09, ‘10) and a two-time State Finalist (2005, ‘06).  “We are proud of what this team has accomplished starting when they were 13 years old”, notes Thomas, “and now – as young women – they have a chance to do what only one other team ever has.   We will be playing very good teams - and many of the best collegiate players in the country, but these girls have been there before and know what it takes to win.  In addition to Emily, Amelia, Sid, Kelsea, Coco, Nic and Amanda – who have been the heart and soul of our past Championships, this year we have added to the roster a group of outstanding Southern California bred players who I have long admired and am thrilled to now have as part of this amazing team.  For them, as well, this truly is an historic opportunity.”
