FDU Rallies to Tie Sacred Heart, 1-1
The Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer team saw its four-game win streak snapped but remained unbeaten in Northeast Conference play as they came from behind to tie Sacred Heart, 1-1, in double overtime on the road in Fairfield, CT Sunday afternoon. With the tie, FDU is now 7-2-2 (3-0-1 NEC) on the season, while SHU is 5-4-2 (1-1-2) overall.
At the end of the 42nd minute of the match and with three minutes remaining in the first half, Omar Levy took a free kick from 50 yards out, and Simon Harrsen was able to head the feed into the top left corner of the goal to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, five seconds into the 69th minute, junior #Jack McVey# took a corner kick, and freshman #Miguel Escobar# was able to corral the ball and blast it past and deflect it off SHU goalkeeper Alex Fait to tie the game at one. The goal was Escobar’s third on the season.
Neither team was able to score in regulation which sent the game into overtime. After both teams failed to score in both 10 minute overtime periods, the Knights and Pioneers settled for a 1-1 tie.
