Four sign NLIs to play at Vanderbilt

February 18, 2015

A quartet of student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play soccer at Vanderbilt and will enroll this fall, head coach Darren Ambrose announced on Monday.

Ambrose, who spent the last 15 years at Penn, was hired less than two weeks ago. Amidst the coaching change, assistant coach Sebastian Vecchio headed the charge to keep the recruiting class intact.

The four players hail from the Southeast region, with a pair from Georgia and prospects from Alabama and Tennessee. All four players are used to winning and have either won state championships or have helped their schools play for a state title.

“I am excited to have this class of 2015 joining a strong core of returning players,” Ambrose said. “They each bring something to the table that will help move the program along in a positive direction.”

A quick look at the four signees:

Kelsey Carrier (Midfielder; Atlanta, Ga.; Marist School)

Maggie Clemmons (Defender; Mountain Brook, Ala.; Mountain Brook High School)

Brook Colangelo (Forward/Midfielder; Fayetteville, Ga.; Whitewater High School/Harrison High School)

Megan Henry (Defender/Forward; Memphis, Tenn.; Briarcrest Christian High School)

Carrier played at Marist School in Atlanta and helped the War Eagles win back-to-back state championships the last two years. She played her club soccer for Norcross Soccer Academy, which won a state title in 2014.

Clemmons, a four-star prospect by Top Drawer Soccer, split her high school soccer career at Mountain Brook High School (Ala.) and Chaparral High School (Ariz.). She was a three-time all-state selection between the two schools and helped Mountain Brook to a state runner-up finish.

Colangelo was also a four-star prospect by Top Drawer Soccer and was named to the 2015 Girls IMG Academy 150 Player Pool. She helped Whitewater High School to a region championship and state runner-up finish in 2012-13.

Henry, a senior captain this past fall, helped Briarcrest reach the 2014 TSSAA Division II-AA finals. The all-state selection was also named to the THSSCA All-Star Team.
