Lobo Soccer Home Spring Opener on Saturday

March 26, 2015

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Lobo men's soccer team will play its first home match of the spring on Saturday, March 28 at 10 a.m. against Fort Lewis on Robertson Field. Admission will be free and all fans are invited out to get their first sneak peek at the 2015 squad.

It will be the second spring match for UNM, which dropped its opener 1-0 to AZ United SC of the United Soccer League on March 7.

"We played a fully professional team that featured a bunch of former Major League Soccer players," UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein said of his team's spring-opening performance. "We lost 1-0, but for our first game as a new team, I was real happy with out cohesiveness and our spirit. Individually there were lots of good performances, and it was the first collegiate performance for a lot of our guys. You never want to lose, but we got a lot out of the game. We found out what we need to work on as the spring goes on."

The match against Fort Lewis will be the first of four remaining spring matches for UNM. They will also host Air Force on Saturday, April 4 at 1:30 p.m. before playing two more matches outside of Albuquerque. The first will be on Saturday, April 11 at 3 p.m. against Denver in Taos, and the Lobos' final match of the spring will be on Saturday, April 18 at 6 p.m. in Denver against Nebraska-Omaha. But first, the Lobos are looking forward to hosting the Skyhawks on Saturday.

"Fort Lewis is one of the top Division II teams in the country," said Fishbein. "They're a very ambitious team with the ball, and it should be a good test. We've had a couple more weeks of training under our belt since our opener, and we want to get out there and test ourselves against good opponents."
