Razorbacks Drop First Match Of Year
WASHINGTON DC – No. 17 Arkansas dropped its first game of the year on the road 1-0 in its first-ever match against George Washington to fall to 5-1-0.
A header by Colonials senior forward Mackenzie Cowley got past Razorback senior goalkeeper Cameron Carter in the 42nd minute of play to put George Washington on the board. The goal would eventually be the game-winner, with the Colonials overcoming the Razorbacks’ 10-3 edge in shots and 4-3 advantage in corners.
“I’ll have to watch the film on that one and see where we can get better. Kudos to George Washington,” head coach Colby Hale said. “They were better on the day. Stats, possession and territory favored us, but we lacked the edge that makes us great. Simply put, we just weren’t us. This will sting for a short bit and will be a good reminder that winning isn’t easy. We’ll move on and prepare for a very good Mississippi State team this week.”
The Razorbacks will next face the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starkville, Mississippi, on Friday at 7 p.m. CST. The match will be streamed online via SEC Network+.
Arkansas holds an 18-3-0 edge over Mississippi State dating back to 1995 and a 3-1-0 advantage during Hale's tenure.
