Sac. State women's soccer signs two

February 16, 2015

The Sacramento State women's soccer program has received two national letter of intent commitments for the 2015 season. The two signees, defender Hadyn Gabbert and forward Caitlin Prothe, are both from Spokane, Wash.

"I'm really excited about our 2015 recruiting class," Sacramento State head coach Randy Dedini said. "Although small in number the class is big on talent and will be a great compliment to our strong group of returners. These players were chosen to fill specific needs of our team and will have the opportunity to compete for time immediately."

Gabbert and Prothe went to different high schools but played together for the Spokane Shadow club soccer team. Gabbert, a 5-11 center back, was named MVP of the Greater Spokane League as a senior and was an all-state second team selection from Lewis & Clark high school. She helps replace the loss of senior all-Big Sky defender Kassi Anast and compliments a strong group of returning Hornet defenders.

"Hadyn is an exceptional athlete and a true center back with all the qualities to be great in the Big Sky," Dedini said. "She will add both size and speed to our back line. Hadyn is an excellent one-v-one defender and a beast in the air. She will help anchor our back line for years to come."

Prothe will add some offensive punch to the Hornets after totaling 13 goals and five assists in her senior season at Joel E. Ferris high school. The 5-6 Prothe was an all-Greater Spokane League first team selection as a senior and was her team's Offensive Player of the Year.

"Caitlin is a playmaker," Dedini said. "She simply creates goal-scoring chances for herself and her teammates every time she's on the field. She is a versatile player who can be dangerous on our front line or our midfield. Caitlin is very dynamic on the dribble and will break defenses down by splitting defenders and drawing multiple players to cover her."
