Akron, Stanford retain #1 spot in Tournament ranking

Villanova’s Katie Ryan and UC Irvine’s Irving Garcia earned the TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the Week honors for Men’s and Women’s College Soccer this week due to their standout performances. Ryan scored a pair of goals and added two assists as the #34 Wildcats won two Big East matches, while Garcia scored 3 goals and added an assist in wins for the #27 Anteaters over New Mexico and Cal State Northridge(m).

Meanwhile in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Tournament 64 and 48 National Ranking, the Akron Zips men and the Stanford Cardinal women retain their #1 rankings, remaining unbeaten and untied on the 2009 season.

Paul Ratcliffe’s Stanford women are now 13-0-0 after a pair of road wins in Pac 10 play vs. Oregon State and Oregon. Portland, North Carolina and UCLA each move up one spot and Florida State drops to #5 after a loss to ACC foe Wake Forest. New entries into the ranking, which is a running attempt to project the postseason NCAA Women’s College Tournament field, include Villanova, Colorado, San Diego, Hofstra, Penn State, Illinois State, Monmouth, Loyola (MD), Liberty and Sacramento State.

On the men’s side, Caleb Porter’s Akron program remains undefeated at 11-0-0 after beating UIC and Western Michigan on the week. The remainder of the ranking list is noticeably static compared to previous week’s, but William & Mary(m) of the CAA re-enters the ranking after a three-week absence. New arrivals include William & Mary, St. Mary's, Elon, American, Marshall and New Hampshire.
