Stanford still #1; New Mexico defense POTW
October 17, 2010
Stanford continues on top of the Women’s Tournament 64 National Ranking with a pair of wins this week. Home victories vs. Washington State (5-0) and Washington (2-1) keep Paul Ratcliffe’s undefeated squad at #1.
North Carolina and Portland continue at 2-3 with a pair of victories each. In fact, the entire top 10 from last week’s list remains intact, albeit in slightly different order.
New Mexico's Roxie McFarlandThe Tournament 64 National Ranking is a running effort to project the 64-team NCAA Tournament field, including all automatic conference and at-large bids to the field. It is updated every Monday through the season. You can see the entire ranking here.
Meanwhile, the starting back line of the New Mexico Lobos has been pegged for the TopDrawerSoccer.com Players of the Week award based on their excellent work in leading the team to a pair of shutout wins during the week, including a 3-0 victory over Utah and a 1-0 triumph over BYU to put the team atop the Mountain West Conference standings. Roxie McFarland, Lauren Irwin, Liz Nare and Brooke Ellison are the recipients, the first time four players have shared the award. Their performance helps the Lobos burst into the Tournament 64 Ranking belatedly (on our part). With the honor, the quartet headlines this week’s TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week.
