WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Freshman Tanya Cain scored for NC State in a 2-1 setback at No. 19 Wake Forest in Atlantic Coast Conference women's soccer action Thursday evening at Spry Stadium. Wake Forest (10-5, 3-4 ACC) scored twice in a five-minute span in the early portion of the second half to gain a 2-0 advantage. Bess Hutchinson scored the game's first goal in the 49th minute. Moments later in the 54th minute, Jill Hutchinson found the back of the net for the Deacs. That second goal seemed to spark the Wolfpack offense as they began to pepper the Wake Forest goal. It all paid off when senior Lindsay Vera's cross from the right side found Cain and she connected from four yards out for her third goal of the season at 84:35. Neither team mustered a shot in the final five minutes – allowing the Deacs to hold on for the victory. NC State (8-9, 0-7 ACC) had five of its seven shots over the final 32 minutes of the match after falling behind by two goals. Pack keeper Rachel Barnette was solid again in net by coming up with seven saves. Laura Morse came up with one save for Wake. The Wolfpack heads home for the final three matches of the regular season.
