The University of Louisville Men's Soccer team knocked off West
Virginia 2-0 Wednesday night at Cardinal Park in the first round of the
BIG EAST tournament.  The Cardinals advance to the quarterfinals where
they will face No. 11 Notre Dame on Saturday in South Bend.

Louisville got on the board in the 71st minute with a little help from
a West Virginia defender.  Zachary Hernan dribbled down the right side
of the field, cut towards the middle and hit what was meant to be a
cross to the opposite side of the field.  Mountaineer defender Gift
Maworere stuck out his foot to try and block it, but it deflected
towards the goal past a diving Zach Johnson and into the net.

West Virginia had two great scoring chances in the second half, but
Cardinal keeper Andre Boudreaux made great saves on both to preserve the
clean sheet.  In the 65th minute Paul Paradise found himself open just
outside the 18 and fired a shot that required Boudreaux to make a diving
save.  Just three minutes later Paradise crossed the ball on the ground
to a wide open Sean Brooks who shot towards the upper right corner of
the net, but Boudreaux again denied the shot.

Louisville was able to seal the game in the 89th minute.  Colin Rolfe
dribbled down the left side and passed to J.T. Murray in the middle, who
fired a shot past Johnson.

The Cards only had one good scoring chance in the first half.  Aaron
Clapham sent a corner into the box that was flicked on to Nolan
Chandler, who headed the ball towards the right side of the goal.
Johnson made a diving save to his left to deny the shot and keep the
game scoreless.  West Virginia, meanwhile, didn't have any promising
scoring opportunities.  They took just three shots in the half, none of
them on goal.

West Virginia had an 11-9 shot advantage in the game, while both teams
took four shots on goal.  Mountaineer goalkeeper Zach Johnson had two
saves while Boudreaux had four.

Louisville will travel to Notre Dame to play in the quarterfinal on
Saturday with the game scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
