Best of the Best
There are very few of these. A player who is the toast of the soccer community and coveted by coaches and scouts, pro and college alike. Such a player will have a command of the physical, mental, tactical and technical elements of the game, including the emotional maturity to handle success and be a good team member.
Very Strong
Some of the strongest players, who either are a bit younger and progressing toward a 5-star designation, or just beneath it on the scale and still attracting a lot of attention for their considerable abilities on the field. 4-star players are still capable of being the best players on the field in any given match.
Strong
Very good players who, while not as talented across the board as their 4 and 5-star colleagues, can make a difference in a match and tend to stand out on the field. You might be more likely to find a deficiency in one of the 4 key areas (physical, mental, tactical, technical) among these players, however, they will still be fairly strong in most of them.
Good
Talented players who fall somewhat short in some of the areas. These are still quite serviceable and valuable to have around. They are best when they know their role in a team setting. Every team needs some of these players.
Fair
A player who has not developed the rounded game of their higher-rated counterparts, but still has some qualities to set them apart from the large group of players who compete in club soccer. A 1-star player may be relied on less than some of their teammates, but they still play a valuable role, both as developing players and as established team members.
Note: A player making this list means he or she is among the exceptionally talented players in this country.
The rankings graduate with age. As a younger player is naturally less complete in his or her development, the designation will not be on the same scale.
