The weekend of April 27-28 is a long way off, but the SIMA FAB 50 spring girls rankings this week has some people dreaming of a 1-2 showdown.

A rare loss by Tulsa Union (Tulsa, Okla.) last week allows Collinsville (Ill.) and St. Thomas Aquinas (Overland Park, Kan.) to move into the Nos. 1 and 2 spots this week. The teams are in the same half of the eight-team Burlington (Iowa) Tournament of Champions event in late April.

Both teams will play about a dozen games before getting to Iowa, so the chances of both remaining perfect for the next seven weeks might be a bit of a stretch given the quality of schedules. But, IF Collinsville and St. Thomas Aquinas can run the table leading to Burlington, it will really make that event the pinnacle of the spring season.

While the SIMA FAB 50 preseason rankings were released a month ago, this week starts the weekly updates. Most of the teams -- both in the boys and girls rankings -- have yet to play. But the little play that has occurred led to quite a bit of shuffling.

BIG MOVERS: BOYS: El Toro (Lake Forest, Calif.). After beating three SIMA FAB 50 Top 15 opponents in consecutive matches, El Toro moved from No. 35 to No. 17 this week -- the largest move among the ranked programs. ... GIRLS: Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.). A week after re-entering the SIMA FAN 50, Mater Dei made the largest leap among the ranked teams -- going from No. 35 to No. 20 in the Southern Section runner-up finish. 

NEWCOMERS: BOYS: No. 32 Marin Academy (San Rafael, Calif.), No. 33 Jesuit (Carmichael, Calif.), No. 35 St. Ignatius (San Francisco, Calif.) and No. 36 Carlmont (Belmont, Calif.). ... GIRLS: No. 30 South Torrance (Torrance, Calif.) and No. 32 Claremont (Calif.).
