Top teams set pace in girls regional polls
The third weekly NSCAA regional rankings update is here, bringing with a new set of regional challengers. Fortunately for the girls traditional powers, however, last week's No. 1s held sway this week, with each keeping its hold on the top spot. Regions V and VI both got new No. 2s, though, and some teams rolled into the top 15 from unranked positions to upset some of the balance.
For the girls, here are breakdowns of each of the six regions and some of the most interesting movements of each.

Region I
Precipitated by its move to the No. 1 overall team in the national poll, Exeter easily kept hold of its top spot here. Likewise, Franklin held fast at No. 2 while a draw from Beverly dropped them from No. 3 to a tie for No. 15. That allowed Central Catholic, which is a perfect 3-0-0, to scoot up to from seventh to third to round out a salty New England-based top three. The biggest tumble came from Maine dynasty Scarborough, which fell from No. 4 to out of the poll.

Region II
New York's difficult Region II has finally kicked off, though not every team in the top 15 has played a game just yet. That doesn't include No. 1 South Side (which kept its top spot for the third straight week), No. 2 Washingtonville and No. 3 Islip, all of which are 1-0-0. With that in mind, all 15 are in the same places they were a week ago.

Region III
The top 10 in Region III are all unchanged from last week, which isn't a surprise considering those teams are a combined 37-0-1 this season. New Jersey's Pingry dropped out of the poll from No. 11, making way for Conestoga Valley to vault to No. 12 from the receiving consideration pool.
1. Northern Highlands (Allendale, N.J.)

Region IV
Franklin hopped up from No. 5 to muscle its way into the top three past Winfield and Bishop O'Connell, which fell to No. 8 after suffering its first loss of the season to drop to 3-1-0. Interestingly, O'Connell's DMV rival McDonough was the big mover this week, going from No. 14 to No. 7 with a 1-1-1 mark. Looking out for future matchups between two teams elbowing next to each other in the rankings is a must.

Region V
Carmel drew for the first time last week to refashion its record to 7-0-1, which dropped the Indiana power from No. 1 to No. 4 in the national poll this week. No such problems here, which sees Carmel keep hold of its top Region V ranking. The big news here is the introduction of Rocky River, which shot up from out of the poll to No. 2 on the back of a dominant 8-0-1 start. Otherwise, not much changed toward the top of this upper midwest region.

Region VI
While Maria Carrillo keeps a firm grasp on the claim of the west's No. 1 fall girls team, movement continues to churn up the rankings at its back. Seattle-area rivals Issaquah and Skyline essentially swapped places, while we see Forest Grove enter the poll for the first time at No. 3. That means the top three teams in this region come from three different states down the west coast, cementing an impressive level of region-wide parity.
1. Maria Carrillo (Santa Rosa, Calif.)
2. Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.)
3. Forest Grove (Forest Grove, Ore.)
