The Albion Cup National Showcase is set for its eighth annual event and second year as a National College Showcase.  Top teams from around the country are coming to San Diego to participate in this tournament, many of them from our home in southern California, and our friends up in Norcal and other Region IV teams.

The Albion Cup is set up as three tournaments in one.  The college age groups (U17-U19) draw in teams from all around the country to play on top fields and to play in front of college coaches who also congregate in this virtual San Diego soccer fair.  The next age brackets (U11-U15) draw teams from within the region who are looking for exposure and to experience competitive play.  Younger age groups brought in hopes of playing in a quality tournament in a good atmosphere.

Puma, the official sponsor of the Albion Cup, does a great job of creating opportunities for the teams that participate in the tournament in a way that few showcases can. As if showcasing players’ talents to college coaches wasn’t enough, two finalists of the U15 V-Elite bracket have the opportunity to travel to the 2010 USA Cup to compete in the U15 Boys V-Elite bracket. Winners of the USA Cup will receive an all expense paid trip to England. Puma brings in the best teams in the country and does a great job of providing the necessary environment for players.

A few years of inviting college coaches around the nations have created self-generating buzz around the Albion Cup. Coaches have already signed up to come to the showcase to see some of the best talent in the nation. Boston College, UCLA, UCSB, Rutgers are just to name a few that have climbed aboard to participate.

Some interesting factoids about the Albion Cup: over 350 teams participate a year with around 5-10 foreign teams flying in to take part. Eight-10 regional champion teams and 15 state champion teams are always represented. Winners of the Albion Cup are guaranteed acceptance into the following year’s tournament.

This next time the Albion Cup will convene is in July 17-19, 2010. Register your team today!

Albion Cup will also be a proud sponsor of the first annual Soccer Products of the Year (SPY) Awards presented by TopDrawerSoccer.com and will have a booth at the annual NSCAA Convention being held in Philadelphia, PA, this January 13-17, 2009. Check out what they have to offer!
