FRISCO, Texas (Nov. 21, 2011) - The second day of games at the annual US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Girls Thanksgiving Interregional today featured the first games for the 1996 and 1997 age groups at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla.

 

Continuing its tradition of elite competition and player development, youth from the nation's top player identification program, US Youth Soccer ODP, will train and compete in front of national staff and collegiate coaches to maximize their exposure for selection to the next level of play. More US Youth Soccer ODP players have been called into Youth National Team camps than any other ID program, including 129 of 148 players called into U-14, U-15, U-17 and U-18 camps since September 2011.

 

Region IV's Sarah Chase started the scoring in the 1996 age group with a goal in the 9th minute against Region I. Pilar Torres added to the Region IV lead with a goal in the 60th minute. Carissima Cutrona pulled one back for Region I in the 78th minute, but Region IV held on for the 2-1 win.

 

The 1996's scoring ways continued in the game between Region II and Region III. Mary Gracin Palmer gave Region III the lead twice in the first half, with a goal in the 6th and again in the 22nd minute, after Sophie Babo had leveled for Region II in the 7th minute. The second half belonged to Region II. Kristen Dodson and Emily Ogle scored in the 53rd and 68th minutes respectively, capping of the come-from-behind victory for Region II over Region III, 3-2.

 

Region IV was victorious when the 1997s took on Region I. Katie Pingel scored the lone first-half goal with a strike in the 9th minute. Anika Rodriguez added two second half goals within five minutes, sandwiching a goal by Samantha Scaffidi for Region I, bringing the final tally to 3-1 in favor of Region IV.

 

Region III got a win on Monday as the 1997s scored a 2-1 victory over Region II. Ella Stevens scored early for Region III, finding the net in the 4th minute. Marissa Viggiano leveled for Region II in the 63rd, but a goal from Michaela Abam in the 70th minute gave Region III the win, 2-1.
