Below is the fifth and final glance into the top prospects in Major League Soccer, heading into the new campaign.
10. Mason Toye – Forward – Minnesota United
DOB: 10/16/1998 | HT: 6-3 | WT: 180 | Last Year’s Ranking: 14
Part of the 2018 Generation adidas class, Toye was picked No. 7 in last year’s draft and enters his second professional season seeking his first goal in MLS. As a rookie, he carved out a role for himself as a regular sub, playing in a total of 17 games, but only 340 minutes total and failed to find the back of the net. That left him with small chunks of the game to try and make an impact as an out-and-out No. 9. Toye remains arguably the best U.S. up-and-coming forward in the league, at least in terms of both his age and profile. A classic target striker that can hold the ball up, bring in teammates and (hopefully) score goals, he faces another uncertain path to minutes. There’s hope that he takes a step forward in terms of minutes player as opposed to a step back, though nothing is ever guaranteed.
