2nd place TeamRank teams closing on leaders
February 14, 2011
As the season continues, teams are starting to hunt down the leaders in the TeamRank National Top 10 for the U13 through U15 Boys age groups.
Making a statement is Southern California club team Fullerton Rangers, who sit in second place of the U14 Boys table, and are nipping at the heels of local rival Cosmos Academy West.
“For us, we set a standard to play soccer the best we have ever played,” Fullerton Rangers Head Coach James Obleda said. “The level of the group that has come in is great, and (the group) has been able to understand expectations. We play good quality soccer so that people appreciate and understand what we try to do.”
Among other players that have received recognitions is Adrian Vera, who has been involved with last year’s U.S. U14 BNT team, and also named into the Regional ’96 team. There is also Ronalodo Pineda, a center midfielder who is the engine of the team and was also named to the Regional ’97 team.
The team, like many others, is currently on hiatus for high school soccer season, but the youngsters have still been training with the team. Coach Obleda’s primary focus when all his players reconvene will be their training.
“When they return, we need them to get back to the way we play. We have to get them gradually back to speed, playing the game, and improving,” he said. “They have to get back, deal with the pressures of winning games, and playing good soccer. “
Orange County, California team South Bay Gunners SC lead the pack in the U13 Boys with some buffer room to spare against second-place Ohio Premier Eagles.
FC Dallas doesn’t have that luxury, as it only leads the U15 Boys rankings with less than ten points over Ohio side Classic Eagles FC.
