Academy Recap: Goals galore
Across the last weekend of Development Academy, there was a recurring theme – lots of goals scored.
In the cluster of games, 19 teams managed to score four goals or more, including severely lopsided results in some instances: Baltimore Bays Chelsea U16s defeating Richmond Kickers 9-0, Crossfire Premier beating Nomads 8-0 and Oakwood SC topping Met Oval 6-0.
Some of the best players across the country weren’t available as well, with the U.S. U18 MNT traveling to France for a ten-day trip across Europe. That didn’t prevent some entertaining encounters, however.
East Conference
Continuing the theme of high-scoring games and lopsided results, Weston FC won big over Florida rivals Orlando City Youth Soccer, outscoring them 10-0 over two games. The Weston U18s got two goals from Nicholas Pappacena in a 4-0 win, while Agustin Zambrano and Diego Serfaty each scored two goals as the U16s won 6-0.

Three goals in the first 30 minutes of the U16 match powered the Revolution to full points in a 3-2 victory – defender Trevor Davock scoring twice in the win.
The undefeated season for the New York Red Bulls U18s continued on Saturday, as the team overcame a 2-1 halftime deficit, scoring three unanswered goals to win 4-2. Ismar Tandir and Adam Najem both got their names on the scoresheet.

Vardar’s U16s earned a 4-1 result in the other matchup of the day, powered by a Nathan McLean hat trick. Crew Soccer Academy paid a visit to Indiana on Sunday, with the U18s defeating the Fire 2-0, before the two U16 squads drew 2-2.
Welcoming a pair of Texas teams to town, the Colorado Rapids U18s managed to put together an unbeaten weekend, with a 4-0 win over Classics Elite and a 1-1 draw versus Lonestar SC. Colorado U16s picked up a full six points, winning 3-2 and 2-0 over the same opponents.
Also facing Lonestar and Classics Elite were Sporting KC, which drew the former by a 1-1 score, and lost 1-0 to the latter when the two U18 teams clashed. Logan Lucas bagged a hat trick in leading Sporting KC’s U16s to a big 4-0 win over Classics Elite, while the KC youngsters rang the bell twice in a 2-1 win against Lonestar SC.

It was an eventful weekend for the Portland Timbers Academy, as the new Academy entrants hosted a pair of Northern California clubs in the Rose City. Christian Desir’s hat trick for Portland’s U18s earned them a 3-3 draw against Strikers FC – Paul Salcedo Borrego and Christian Thierjung provided the answers for Strikers. The Timbers won the U16 matchup by a 2-0 score line.
Sunday’s action saw Pateadores U18s defeat Portland 2-0, before the two U16 teams drew 1-1.

Discuss: Can Perez and Chivas USA U16 be stopped? Or will the Goats be lifting the Academy Championship in July?
