Assessing the U.S. U17 MNT Player Pool
The U.S. U17 Men’s National Team is in India this week for the 2016 AIFF Youth Cup. The event serves as a precursor to the 2017 U17 World Cup in India, which the U.S. hopes to quality for via the U17 CONCACAF Championship. The international tournament in India is only the fourth event for this age group since it transitioned into the U17 stage with the Nike Friendlies at the end of 2015.
Over the course of the brief time this group has been playing as the U17s, head coach John Hackworth has called in 40 players all born in 2000. Hackworth had an additional time with this group in 2015 when they were classified as U15s and he was serving as the coach for that age group, but the player pool for the U17s at this point is 40 deep.
TopDrawerSoccer takes a look at the players who have been called in and which players look to be the regulars already with this team.
