Dayton men's soccer adds six for 2016
The University of Dayton men’s soccer team announced the addition of six student-athletes for the 2016 season.
Churchill Onumonu, Louis St. John, Bennett Lehner, Keaton Joseph, Kevin Reilly, and Trent Stigler have all committed to the Dayton men’s soccer program for the upcoming school year.
“We are excited to have a quality class coming in for the 2016 season,” said head coach Dennis Currier. “We are coming off a historical season after advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament and it is important for us to maintain our success. We expect this class to provide some of these pieces along with our returning student-athletes.”
Churchill Onumonu is a forward from London, England. At King Edwards School, Onumonu was freshmen and sophomore MVP of his U-16 and U-18 club teams. He scored 43 goals during those years combined. Onumonu went on to attend Shattuck St. Mary’s High School, where he scored two goals in four games in USSDA during his senior year.
Louis St. John is a center-midfielder from Claredon Hills, Illinois, where he attended Hinsdale Central High School. As a senior, St. John was awarded All-State, All-American, All-Conference, All-Region, and team MVP honors. He also holds the all-time assist record with 21 throughout his career. During his 2014-15 season with U-16 Chicago Fire Academy, St. John was named MVP of the Costa Rican International Cup. He was also a member of the U-18 National Championship team and played in Zatar for the Al Kass Cup in 2013-14.
Bennett Lehner is a forward from Camas, Washington. As a junior at Camas High School, Lehner received NCSSA All-West Region, All-State First Team, All-Region Player of the Year, and All-League Offensive MVP honors. During his sophomore and freshmen seasons, Lehner received All-State Honorable Mention and All-League First Team accolades. As a junior, he totaled 17 goals and four assists to help his team to a 16-1-1 record. Lehner has also played on the Portland Timbers Academy U-18 team and Eastside Timbers U-18 Barcelona squad.
Keaton Joseph is a center midfielder from Indianapolis, Indiana. At Covenant Christian High School, he scored 42 career goals and had 20 career assists. He is a four-time All-City Member, three-time NCSAA All-American, four-time Super-Regional Team Member, and received All-District and All-State honors. Joseph led his team to two sectional championships and a state runner-up effort in 2012.
Kevin Reilly is an outside back/outside midfielder from Libertyville, Illinois. He joins the Flyers from Libertyville High School where, as a captain, guided his 2015 team to its first Illinois State Soccer Championship in school history. That squad was also ranked in the Top 10 nationally by USA Today and was award the Max Preps 2015 National Guard Soccer Tour of Champions Award. In addition, he was a four-year varsity player, leading his team in minutes and games played in a career. He was only the second player in Libertyville history to be named captain as both a junior and senior. As a member of FC 1974, Reilly as a two-time National League Contender, regional semi-finalist, and Youth State Cup Champion.
Trent Stigler is a dual-threat center midfielder from Prospect, Kentucky, but attended Saint Xavier High School in Louisville, Kentucky. During his high school career, Stigler scored 21 goals and had 12 assists while receiving the Outstanding Sophomore, Junior, and Senior honors. In the 2014 season, he was awarded All-American West Team, All-District, All-Region, and All-State accolades. With his club team Javanon, Stigler was a two-time State Champion and two-time runner-up. Off the field, he maintained a 4.0 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society.
