After eight months and countless games, there are no longer any undefeated teams left in the USSF Development Academy for the 2011-12 season.

Crew Soccer Academy Wolves U16 (Michigan) was the final team to keep its undefeated run alive, but Chicago Fire ended that streak on Saturday with a 1-0 win. Marcus Epps scored midway through the first half and Fire held onto the shutout victory.  

The Dallas Texans U18 (2010-11) remains the only team to finish a season undefeated in Development Academy play through the fifth year of the league. 

Will it ever be duplicated?

Central Conference:

Shattuck Saint Mary’s U18 enjoyed the start of May with a pair of road victories over the two Scott Gallagher teams. Jacob Gandarilla scored the game-winner against St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri on Saturday in a 1-0 result. 

Eddosa Muhammed found the back of the net twice on Sunday to help SSM to a 4-0 win over St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro.  The Minnesota club holds a one-point lead over Colorado Rapids in the Frontier Division, after the Rapids were held to a 1-1 draw against Real Colorado. 

University of Virginia bound Shane O’Neill scored early for the MLS Academy, but Real Colorado’s Crosby Lee answered before half in the Denver derby. 

Colorado Rush also remained near the top of the division with a 2-0 win over Sporting KC on Saturday. 

In the U16 age group, St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri and Shattuck-Saint Mary’s are even on points at the top of the division, after SSM suffered two defeats over the weekend.

Scott Gallagher Missouri won the meeting on Saturday 3-1 to even the season series at one a piece. Nick Jones scored twice in Saturday’s win. 

On Sunday, the weekend went from bad to worse for SSM U16 when St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro notched a 4-1 victory over the visitors from the Land of 1000 Lakes. Tyler Swanner scored a hat trick in 41 minutes in the victory. 

Chicago Fire U18 continued its dominant run of form with a pair of convincing victories over the Michigan clubs. To start the weekend, Fire rolled past Crew Soccer Academy Wolves 4-1 behind goals from Victor Pineda, Chisom Ogbonna, and Charlie Oliver. 

Then Fire bounced back from a 2-0 deficit in the first half, and smoked Vardar 6-2 behind five second half goals on Sunday. Fire remains in first place in the Great Lakes Division with a seven-point lead over Sockers FC, who beat FC Milwaukee 4-1 on Sunday. 

Chicago Fire also holds the top spot in the U16 age group after the win over the Wolves. 

In Texas, Christian Duarte scored twice and led Texans SC Houston U18 to a 2-0 win over Classics Elite on Saturday. Texans SC Houston took over the second place spot in that division, as Solar Chelsea SC U18 dropped a 1-3 result to Houston Dynamo. 

Dallas Texans U16 dropped the ball on Saturday. With a chance to book its ticket to the playoffs, the Texans lost 2-1 to FC Dallas and still need a couple of point out of its final four games to secure a spot in the postseason. 

 

East Conference:

Albertson SC U18 is still leading the way in the Liberty Division. Albertson notched wins over NY Cosmos and Met Oval over the weekend. Eric McKenna and Jake Freeman found the back of the net in the 2-0 win over Met Oval on Sunday. 

Players Development Academy U18 secured the bragging rights for New Jersey with a 1-0 win over New York Red Bulls. U.S. U18 defender Miguel Alves scored the game-winner for the Philadelphia Union affiliate. 

PDA U16 and NYRB fought to a 1-1 draw in the later game. Leandro Lemache scored for PDA nine minutes before half time. Amando Moreno answered for the Red Bulls in the second half for his ninth goal of the season.

Baltimore Bays Chelsea U18 pushed its undefeated run to 12 games with a 2-0 win over D.C. United on Sunday. However, FC Delco still holds the top spot in the division with a one-point advantage. The two clubs meet in Baltimore next weekend. 

FC Delco is also top of the division in the U16 age group after taking home six points from the weekend’s fixtures. On Saturday, FC Delco sauntered past NJSA 04 4-0 thanks to goals from Tolunimi Ibikunie, Colin Hester, Colton Amidon, and Bradford Jones. 

Ibikunie found the back of the net again on Sunday in a 1-0 win over Match Fit Chelsea.

Empire United U18 had a grand time in Boston over the weekend with a pair of victories in Northeast Division play. Darren Cooper and Anthony Rozzano led the way with two goals a piece from the two games. 

South Conference:

Charlotte SA U18 scored twice in the final four minutes to erase an early deficit and steal a point from North Carolina Fusion on Saturday. Brandon Kardos grabbed the game-tying goal in stoppage time off a corner kick by Roland Minogue. 

With only seconds remaining in the game, Charlotte pushed everyone into the box for a final corner kick, which Kardos headed into the net above a plethora of defenders.  

Also in North Carolina, CASL Chelsea FC U18 cruised to a 3-0 victory over North Meck on Sunday. Fernando Castellanos scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the win. Alex Olofson and William Thompson also scored for CASL. 

Weston FC U18 pushed its undefeated run to six games with wins over Clearwater Chargers and IMG Soccer Academy. Danny Jensen notched his 17^th goal of the season in the win over the Chargers. 

West Conference:

Chivas USA U18 beat San Diego Surf 3-2 behind a brace from Mark Verso and retook the top spot in the division. With only two division games left, Chivas USA holds a two-point lead over RSL-AZ and LA Galaxy at top of the table. However, Galaxy holds a game in hand over the other two clubs. 

Galaxy U16 crushed Nomads on Saturday 5-0 via goals from Kevin Labastida, Steve Martinez, Bryan Guzman, Aaron Lombardi, and Alejandro Vergara. With three games remaining in division play, Galaxy is one-point away from clinching a playoff spot, and four points away from winning the division.
