Development Academy: Upsets rule April
The Development Academy was full of surprises during the first weekend of April. Two MLS Academies suffered as they saw lengthy streaks come to an end with only a handful of games left on the schedule.

Central
Solar Chelsea SC U18 pushed its unbeaten streak to six games and moved into a wildcard spot with a 7-0 win over Texans SC Houston on Saturday. Midfielder Nicolas Lozada-Smith led the way with four goals. Brock Dudley scored twice and Alan Winn tallied the other goal for his 14th of the season. Texans SC Houston extracted some revenge in the U16 tilt with a 3-1 win. Sergio Loredo scored twice to lead the Texans to the win and keep them in the playoff hunt.
Juan Flores scored his 18th goal of the season on Saturday and Houston Dynamo U16 picked up a 3-1 win against San Antonio Scorpions Youth Academy. Juan Martinez scored the other two goals on the day. Dynamo rolled in the U18 game 8-0 with four players each scoring two goals. Elochukwu Ozumba, Irvin Ramirez, Mac Reyes, and Jose Rodriguez all put in the double in the lopsided win.
Lonestar SC Academy pulled off a minor shock over the weekend, as its U18 squad defeated FC Dallas 3-1, which marked only the second loss of the campaign for the MLS academy and ended a 12-game winning streak. Noah Murphy, Nathan Goldberg, and Jorge Marin scored for Lonestar in the victory. Santiago Agudelo nabbed a late consolation goal for FC Dallas.
It was Michigan over Ohio in the Mid-America Division over the weekend. Crew Soccer Academy Wolves U18 (Michigan) defeated Crew Soccer Academy (Ohio) 3-2 thanks to a pair of goals from Ahinga Selemani. Tristan Jacob scored the other goal for the victors. Silankonet Bayo and Omar Mohamed scored for Crew. Wolves also won the U16 tilt. Benjamin Snider and Suniel Veerakone scored in a 2-1 result. Devyn Etling scored for Crew.
West
It was UC Santa Barbara’s weekend for the LA Galaxy U18 squad. Recruits Adonis Amaya and Ryo Fujii scored against Pateadores and San Jose Earthquakes respectively for a four-point showing. Amaya had the lone goal on Saturday in a 1-0 win. Fujii scored on Sunday in a 1-1 draw against the Quakes. It was not all good news for Galaxy over the weekend, as the club’s U16 squad dropped from the undefeated ranks. Pateadores knocked off Galaxy 4-1 thanks to two goals from Eder Oliva. Leon Luis and Daniel Klemm also scored. Former Galaxy Academy goalkeeper Pierce Ashworth logged the win in net for Pats.
Real So Cal picked up an important three points over the weekend in the U18 age group with a 4-0 win over Arsenal FC. John Requejo, Jorge Jimenez, Spencer Held, and Carlos Gonzalez all scored in the win. Arsenal triumphed in the U16 game 2-1 thanks to a pair of goals from Errol Onyeike-Bamidele.
East
PDA U16 benefitted from an own goal and held on for a 1-0 win over PA Classics on Saturday to take over the top spot in the Atlantic Division. Joseph Bruno recorded the shutout in goal for PDA. PDA also won 1-0 in the U18 game with Duke commit Brian White scoring the lone goal in the final minute of the game. White has 18 goals on the season.
PDA U18 remains in second place in the division though as Bethesda-Olney continues to be the class of that region. Bethesday-Olney beat Match Fit Academy FC 3-1 over the weekend. Nolan Axenfeld, Jeremy Ebolo Ebobisse, and Matthew Ledder scored for the victors. Tarek Fayed had the lone goal for Match Fit.
Meanwhile, Match Fit U16 continued its fine run of form with a 1-0 win over Bethesda-Olney on Saturday and a 2-0 win over NJSA 04 on Sunday. Match Fit has won four games in a row and yet to let in a goal over that period. Defender Brandon Sabinsky scored the lone goal in Saturday's win over Bethesda-Olney with Everett Minchew logging the shutout in goal.
Carolina Rapids U18 defeated North Carolina Fusion 3-0 on Saturday. Bayley Cashion scored twice and Tanner Roberts added his 21st goal of the season in the victory. Rapids took over sole control of the division with the win as Capital Area RailHawks Academy – CASL was in hibernation over the weekend. Fusion won the U16 matchup 2-1 thanks to goals from Jason Aguilar and Kedric Innes.
It was also a noteworthy weekend for New England Revolution U18 as the team claimed six points against New York Red Bulls and Seacoast United. The win on Saturday over New York Red Bulls was the first loss of the season for the Red Bulls. Amadu Kanuteh scored the lone goal in a 1-0 result. Daniel Apajee was the star on Sunday with three goals in a 3-0 win over Seacoast.
