Galvan wants to rival Marta as a player
December 22, 2009
Mariana Galvan’s ultimate goal as a player?
To be better than Marta.
That should tell you just a little about one of the top girls’ players in Northern California. Let us tell you a little more: The Santa Clara Sporting player is often magical with the ball. She’s one of the players, who, even when she gives up a possession it’s always forgivable – either because you could tell she was trying to make the right play, or she looked so good doing it.
Marin FC’s Kate Bettinger is in the same class. While not quite as flashy as Galvan, Bettinger is consistent in her skill and hard work. She has a great combination of size and strength that she uses to break up the rhythm of opponents and is surely on a path to stardom.
When you think of Reilly Parker, you think of quickness. The girl can flat out go, and if she manages to get the ball out wide many times you can forget about it. Parker is also a winner, having helped Mustang SC to a national title.
Mariah Powers-Young is a versatile athlete that brings power and grace to the pitch. Playing for San Juan SC, Young can be positioned in the back or midfield. She does a good job in supporting the attack and is capable of being a player who can help build from the back and get the ball forward. She has boundless potential whatever position she ends up perfecting.
Defender Stephanie Amack has great size for her age and is truly polished in her technical ability. Like Parker, she’s a successful Mustang SC product who is constantly looking to have a positive effect on the game in subtle ways. Defends 1v1 very well.
