Girls Academy League Texas: Day 1 Standouts
The first Girls Academy League Event kicked off on Friday from a freezing Round Rock, Texas. From the world of club soccer, it will probably go down as the coldest event in history. The snow on the trees around the complex offered a beautiful backdrop for mid-February, but the biting wind did not offer any reprieve for the spectators from the chill of the day - on a weekend when the temperatures look like they will continue to decline.
The Girls Academy League officials announced on Friday that games schedule for Monday, Feb. 15 have been canceled due to the weather.
The inaugural season for the Girls Academy League has been met with every challenge, as the new entrant to the club soccer landscape looks to find its footing even under the most challenging of circumstances.
Friday’s opening games were a bright glimmer of promise with the U17 teams getting the first taste of action across squads from other parts of the country. It was also a showcase for some of the best teams in the league including some of the squads from California that have not played many games during this strange club season.
Thanks to the league broadcasting every game from the event, TopDrawerSoccer was able to catch most of the contests from the opening day. From the sublime passing sequences to the stellar finishes to the spectacular defense, Friday’s games had it all.
