Girls Club Soccer Player of the Week
While it may have been a relatively quiet holiday weekend in the Development Academy, goal-scoring heroics still emerged in the games that took place.
Preparations for the 2019 Girls DA Spring Showcase also played into a light slate, but there was still plenty of goals and close games to go around.
One of those took place between PA Classics and Washington Spirit – MD U18/19 squads. Trailing 3-2 heading into the final 10 minutes of the match thanks to Kaitlyn Laird’s hat trick, two late goals from Leyah Hall-Robinson helped Washington to a 4-3 win. Hall-Robinson’s scoring exploits – she scored three of her team’s four goals – earns her the latest Girls Club Soccer Player of the Week award, presented by THINX.
There were several other notable efforts considered for the award. Laird’s three tallies put her team in a position to win before Hall-Robinson’s heroics. In the U16/17 edition of this clash, Classics forwards Rachel Ludwick scored three times and Jacqueline tallied twice leading the Pennsylvania outfit to a 6-0 win. San Diego Surf U18/19 forward Sydney Sparks made a case with a pair of goals, providing a nice cushion in a 3-0 victory against Albion SC.
