In this week’s installment of the recruiting insider, a pair of twins is set on attending the same school plus a star recruit from New Jersey wants to join a title contender.

Kaitlin and Taylor Klawunder, So Cal Blues U16 Draluck, Midfield/Forward

Class: 2014

Kaitlin and Taylor Klawunder are inseparable.

They are twins, best friends, and very talented soccer players.

The latter point forces an interesting dilemma, as they reach the normal age for elite girls soccer players to verbally commit to a school.

But, according to both, they decided a while ago that they would be going to the same college.

“We have always wanted to go to college together,” the duo told TopDrawerSoccer.com over email. “We are better together because we motivate each other to do better in life, school and soccer.”

It has not been a major issue though, as they said the majority of schools have been interested in both of them.

“As twins, we have a good connection on and off the field and most of the coaches we have been in contact with seem to like this about us.”

They added that they’ve received interest from “most of the schools in the Pac 12 and West Coast Conference as well as many schools across the country.”

“We are looking for a program that promotes balance and success on and off the field. We are looking for the perfect fit for the both of us!”

Don’t expect any rush on that decision though, as the two ODP Region IV standouts are carefully weighing their options.

“It has been exciting to think about college and our future but also overwhelming because it is a big decision that will impact the rest of our lives,” they said. “Because of this, we want to be patient with the process and focus on the things that really matter to us.”

Schuyler DeBree, PDA, Midfielder/Defender

Class: 2014

Schuyler DeBree’s college search started at the beginning of her freshman year.

During tournaments, she’d breeze by local colleges to get the lay of the land, see what might interest her and e-mail colleges to learn more about ones that caught her eye.

Things have hit a new level of late.

“I have progressed into a more serious stage of recruiting,” she wrote TopDrawerSoccer.com in an email interview. “I have narrowed my top choices of schools down to about five or six, so I can focus on the schools which I would be happiest at.”

She’s approaching the process with a tremendous vigor, trying to pinpoint the best fit for her down the road.

“The basic guidelines which I have established for my college commitment include a great campus environment, respected academic programs, a family-like team, and a competitive training environment where I can continue to improve my game,” she said. “The style in which the team plays is important to me.

“I would like to attend a school that has both a very high academic reputation and the ability to compete for a National Championship. Another important factor in my decision will include the different players who have already committed to a certain college.”

A versatile player on the field, DeBree can play just about any position on the field save goalkeeper, although she did say her favored spot is an outside back. She also brings a youth national team pedigree, having appeared in U14 and U15 girl’s national team camps.

She’s been doing her research and has already made a number of campus visits.

“I have attended several camps and I have had unofficial visits where the coaches have spent extra time with me to answer questions and provide tours of the campus,” she said. “I have visited or have plans to visit a total of eight schools in the ACC, Big 10, Big East and Ivy League.”

And while the recruiting process can sometimes go at a frenetic pace on the girls’ side, DeBree is simply looking for the best fit.

“As for the time frame to which I would like to commit, I have no personal deadline,” she said. “I will commit when I find the perfect place for me as a player and student, whether that takes two months or 2 years.”
