Hawks, Surf on the rise at U13
Two teams finished the fall season strong and enter the rankings for the first time with this update. Michigan Hawks 02, though not in the Premier Qualification Division of the Midwest Regional League, sailed through the league’s first division during the fall season, and topped it off with a championship run at the CASL Showcase’s top division, beating No. 20 Boston Breakers Academy in the final. The No. 18 Hawks will compete in the MRL’s Premier II division during the spring season.
San Diego Surf EGSL Academy, which debuts at No. 19, competed in the SCDSL during the fall, but unlike other top teams in Southern California, was not a part of California Regional League competition. But Surf proved its worth during the fall season, finishing second overall in the league, its only loss to No. 1 So Cal Blues Baker in a tight 1-0 contest.
Legends FC 01 accomplished the almost unthinkable in November, upending the No. 1 Blues in the quarterfinals of the prestigious Surf Thanksgiving Tournament, then continued on its way to the tournament title. Finishing the fall season in second place in SCDSL’s Flight 1 North, Legends climb from No. 6 to No. 3.
For the second consecutive month, there is a new No. 1 in this age group. Solar Chelsea ECNL, the Texas Conference leader (9-0-0, only one goal against in conference play), defeated now No. 2 San Diego Surf at the Phoenix Showcase on a hat trick by standout Class of 2019 forward Sydney Nobles. Nobles leads the team with nine goals.
Another team faring well out west was Atlanta-based GSA. Coach Judson Hamby’s squad recovered from its first conference loss to No. 12 Concorde Fire at the month’s beginning and went on an 8-0 run, including a sweep of its competition in Arizona and a defeat of No. 19 Orlando City to finish the month before the Thanksgiving break.
Charlotte SA enters Top 10 at U15
Charlotte SA ECNL climbs two spots to No. 10 this month after taking over the top spot in the Southeast Conference and securing a win over now No. 12 Slammers in Phoenix. After two early conference losses in September, Charlotte righted the ship to finish November with a 9-2 conference record. If the high scoring trio of Ashlynn Serepca, Mary Elliott McCabe and Courtney Walker can keep up the firepower (34 goals between them) and combine with the superior goalkeeping efforts of eighth grader Ruth Jones (in her first year in the ECNL) in its three remaining conference matches, Charlotte may be worthy of one of the top seeds when play offs roll around in June.

Grande Sports Academy TeamRank Top 25 is the comprehensive team-ranking system devised by TopDrawerSoccer.com to provide an objective and common-sense approach to determining which elite youth soccer teams are the best in the nation.
The rankings, updated monthly, are primarily results-based, with a nod toward the league and championship competitions that emulate how excellence is determined in leading soccer nations around the world.
Tournaments are also included but at a reduced value due to the many mitigating factors involving such events, including attrition and guest players.
A final layer of executive evaluation is provided to account for variables that often impact results, thus ensuring that the monthly lists are not subjective, but are not purely mechanical.
