Marshall announces six signees for 2017
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall men’s soccer head coach Chris Grassie announced Wednesday the first part of the 2017 signing class. The first six players to sign are Sahr Felix Sandy (Woodbridge, Va.), Jensen Graham (Charlotte, N.C.), Cameron McNeil (Rochester Hills, Mich.), Kyle Winquist (Medina, Ohio), Collin Mocyunus (Morgantown, W.Va.) and Zak Elagamy (Lafayette, La.).
“We are very excited to announce the first half of our recruiting class for 2017,” coach Grassie said. “We are confident that each of these players will bring something special to the squad. All the credit for this class goes to (assistant coach) Alex Fatovic, who has done an amazing job keeping all of these guys connected to, and excited about Marshall soccer during the change in coaching staff here.”
Sahr Felix comes to Marshall from DC United’s Development Academy where he has played for the last four years. Felix is a dynamic attacking threat with incredible speed and balance and will look to add the depth to the attacking core. “I chose to come to Marshall because of the great staff and environment the school has in place,” Felix said. “This upcoming school year I'm super excited to compete in one of the best soccer conferences in the country and to grow as person and as an athlete."
Jensen Graham, a defender by trade, comes to Marshall via Charlotte, N.C. Jensen has been a fixture in the Charlotte Soccer Academy his whole youth soccer career and can play a variety of roles. “I chose Marshall over anywhere else because of the passion to win,” Graham said. “I could see as soon as I stepped on campus how much the school academically and athletically wanted to succeed and I wanted to be a part of this special program.”
Cameron McNeil comes to Marshall from Rochester Hills, Mich. Cam has been a longtime member of the famous Vardar Development Academy in Detroit. “I chose Marshall because I felt a strong sense of family during all of my visits,” McNeil said. “Marshall has a very rich athletic tradition and I believe the program is moving in the right direction.”
Kyle Winquist comes from Medina, Ohio where he was been the starting goalkeeper for the Cleveland Internationals Development Academy. “I chose Marshall because of the impressive combination of academics and athletics,” Winquist said. “With the goal of pursuing a business degree, Marshall offers various opportunities in the School of Business as well as a successful soccer program."
Collin Mocyunus, a native West Virginian, hails from Morgantown. Collin has been playing his club soccer for Arsenal Soccer Club out of Pittsburgh for the last 4 years. He has also participated in the WV and Region 1 ODP pools. "I chose Marshall because of everything,” Mocyunus said. “From the city of Huntington, the academics, and the soccer program just seemed like the perfect fit for me. I'm beyond excited to represent West Virginia by playing for such an amazing University!"
Zak Elagamy from Lafayette, La., is a Region 3 ODP goalkeeper and member of CSC Alliance. “For me it was the coaching staff,” Elagamy said. “They created an environment that I was looking for in a college and coaching staff. What I'm looking forward too is a bright future not just athletically, but also academically at Marshall University.”
“While I look forward to getting to know the playing styles of each of these players, I’m confident that each of them possess the right character to be successful here at Marshall,” coach Grassie said. “We will continue to fill out this recruiting class throughout the spring and have some exciting prospects that we will announce as they sign. Watch this space!”
