ODP Thanksgiving Interregional kicks off
November 21, 2011
FRISCO, Texas (Nov. 20, 2011) - The annual US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Girls Thanksgiving Interregional kicked off today with the 1994 and 1995 age groups starting the action at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla.
Continuing its tradition of elite competition and player development, youth from the nation's top player identification program, US Youth Soccer ODP, will train and compete in front of national staff and collegiate coaches to maximize their exposure for selection to the next level of play. More US Youth Soccer ODP players have been called into Youth National Team camps than any other ID program, including 129 of 148 players called into U-14, U-15, U-17 and U-18 camps since September 2011.
In the first game of the day, 1994s in Region I and Region IV squared off. The two teams played a scoreless first half, and couldn't find the net until Region IV's Ryan Walker broke the stalemate in the 80th minute. The lead didn't last long as Region I leveled on a Daija Griffen goal just four minutes later. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.
The other 1994 game also ended in a 1-1 after a scoreless first half. Region II struck first as Irene Young finished a corner kick to put her team up 1-0. Just ten minutes later, Alexa Allen scored the equalizer, punching home a cross for Region III.
The first 1995 match up of the morning pitted Region I against Region II. Rachel Ugolik opened the scoring in the 33rd minute for Region I. Veronica Latsko and Emily Morgan added second half goals to secure a 3-0 victory for Region I over Region II.
The final game of the day saw 1995 Region III beat Region IV, 3-1. Jasmine Hart put Region III up 1-0 just before half. Region IV's Brianna Hooks leveled the score in the 55th minute, but Region III was not to be denied victory. US Youth Soccer National Championships Golden Ball winner Elizabeth Keester and her Region III teammate Savannah Jordan scored in the 72nd and 75th minutes respectively.
