Older MLS Prospects to Watch
While the birthdate criteria for this year’s Top 50 prospects list is January 1, 2002, there are still players looking to break through that are older.
Player development varies across the age spectrum, and certainly trends a bit older in North America. Instead of ignoring a group of aged-out players, this piece is a look at some of the older prospects to know. Where applicable, their ranking from last year is cited as a reference.
A reminder of criteria for the prospects list, is that players must be U.S. or Canadian-eligible, and joined the league via draft or as a Homegrown signing. They must be on an MLS contract (so no players on loan from European clubs) as well, and played fewer than 2,000 minutes in MLS.
As the new MLS season begins, here is a look at some of the domestic prospects that fall outside the date range seeking to make an impact.
