Quarters begin Monday at Region III Championships

FRISCO, Texas – Quarterfinals begin Monday at the US Youth Soccer Region III Championships at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. Many teams needed a win Sunday to advance in their quest for the US Youth Soccer National Championship.
In the Under-16 Boys division, Dallas Texans 93 Red capped off round robin play with a third straight 1-0 victory, this one against TSC 93 Red (OK). Brandon Perez netted the lone goal of the match in the 13th minute for Texans, who have not allowed a goal in the tournament and now head into Monday's quarterfinals.
The quarterfinalists are set for the Under-15 Girls age group. However two Georgia teams will battle for the top seed in Bracket D tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. NASA Elite II and ASA Xtreme 94 Elite will take kicks on field No. 13 for the top spot. These same two teams played to a 1-1 tie on Sunday and each finished round robin play with 5 points.
One bracket of the Under-16 Girls age group came down to penalty kicks. In Bracket C, Ponte Vedra Storm (FL) advanced on goal differential as the bracket winner after two goals from Tyler Law and a hat trick from Morgan Brian in a 5-0 win over Bridge FA 92 Gold (SC) while Dallas Texans 92 Red (N-TX) and Hurricane FC Shubert 93 (OK) battled for the other spot. Hurricane took an early lead when Catherine Burch scored seven minutes in and made it 2-0 after a Miriam Rhinehart goal in the 56th minute. Texans answered in the 80th thanks to Emily Hoffend, but Hurricane prevailed 2-1. These teams finished tied in the standings and went to a sixth tiebreaker, penalty kicks. Hurricane prevailed on kicks 4-2 to advance.
Two Under-18 Girls teams finished round robin play unbeaten heading into Monday's quarterfinals. Lonestars SC 91 Red (S-TX) defeated Greensboro 90 Twisters Green (NC) 3-1 on Sunday with goals from Rachel Lenz, Michelle Hagen and Jessica Rightmer. Sting 91 (TX-N) defeated Hattiesburg YSA United (MS) 5-0 thanks to two goals each from Alexandria Chandler and Hannah Higgins plus another from Ellen Scarfone.

The James P. McGuire Cup is the oldest trophy in youth sport dating back to 1935 with the inaugural youth championships. The Under-19 Boys age group as the National Champion will hoist the McGuire Cup. This is the 74th anniversary of the storied cup.

NASA 08 Elite (GA) not only completed round robin play with an unblemished 3-0 record, they also have yet to allow a goal in three Under-19 Boys games. NASA prevailed 1-0 over Dallas Texans Houston 90 Red (S-TX) on Sunday after Jahbari Willis scored in the 50th minute.
