David Leichty, Midfielder, Sporting KC
Top 150 Rank: 92
Class: 2013
A technical player who likes playing in the midfield in front of the back four, David Leichty is still trying to figure out his best option to play in college.
“I am currently in communication with schools and trying to visit with any free time I have,” Leichty wrote TopDrawerSoccer.com in an email.
During the recent Development Academy Showcase down in Frisco, Texas, Leichty went on an unofficial visit to SMU, getting a chance to look a bit more behind the scenes at a college program.
He liked what he saw.
“I thought it was a very impressive campus and the location was appealing to me,” he said.
When it comes to his criteria, Leichty has a few things in mind he’d like to find.
“I am taking into consideration the location and the campus,” he said. “The coaches and players, the weather and climate, and also the distance from home.
“I am not looking at a particular part of the country, just looking for a school that matches the criteria I am looking for.”
Leichty is in no rush to make a decision either – he’s hoping to have things sorted out by the spring, his senior year.
Madison Dunker, Midfielder, Sockers FC
Top 150 Rank: 109
Class: 2014
Entering her junior year of high school, Madison Dunker is well into the recruiting process.
“I got kind of a jump start on trying to figure out what I want from a school when I spent time visiting schools over the last two years with my brother who is a college freshman this fall,” she wrote TopDrawerSoccer.com in an email. “I've spent this summer participating in camps, calling coaches and visiting schools. This helped me get a good idea of what I want from a school and soccer program.”
The Sockers FC midfielder’s productivity has taken her to a number of schools, including programs in the Big East, Big 10, Big 12, and SEC.
Her time checking programs out in person has been a real treat in the process.
“I have visited some amazing schools with a lot to offer the student athlete,” she said. “Every school I visit helps me to complete my vision of where I want to go to school.”
And while soccer remains a high priority, a strong academic reputation is just as important to her.
“I am looking for a school where I can earn a great education,” she said. “I want to go to a school that really supports the academic progress of the student athlete and there are some schools out there that go above and beyond in that respect. Of course, I also want to play and I want to win.”
