Recruiting Insider: Canadian Choices
For most college soccer hopefuls, there is a clear path to attracting the attention of college coaches across North America, one that is blazed by many each year.
That’s not to say the process isn’t challenging for many, as given the size and population of the continent, it can provide for some very tall obstacles for players to overcome.
For players who live in more far-flung locales, it can throw a wrench in the already tricky process of finding the right college program, not to mention catching the eye of coaches.
Alexsondra Moar, Midfielder, Portage Trail Soccer Club
Class: 2014
A native of Winnipeg, Canada, Moar fits into that latter category. She’s doing all she can to try and land a spot on a college team in the face of rather atypical circumstances.
“The challenge I face as a Canadian athlete has to do with gaining exposure to American scouts,” she told TopDrawerSoccer.com. “I reside in a very small province that is not located in a prime spot to be able to access USA showcase events economically.
“As a result I have had to seek outside teams to gain exposure and have been fortunate in being able to play with the two teams I indicated who have each permitted me opportunities to gain the exposure that is necessary. In each instance the club has been helpful in understanding the NCAA process and my obligations within it.”
Normally playing for Portage Trail SC in her hometown, she has also bounced around to other clubs, traveling to events in the hopes of putting her best foot forward for scouts.
