BRADENTON- The second day of the Super Y League Finals at the IMG Academy started off with cool weather and a nice breeze continued throughout the day, complemented by beautiful Florida sunshine. Here are some of the key matchups from the day.

Kalamazoo Kingdom U14 (MI) 5-1 Barca Elite Futbol Club U14 

Kalamazoo Kingdom didn't waste much time trying to get on the scoreboard, as they received goals from Alexander Dalou and Charles Trevisan, who also assisted on the former. Barca Elite had trouble defensively keeping Kalamazoo from attacking constantly on their end of the field, as they had numerous high percentage shots on goal throughout the opening half of play. 

A goal in the 30th minute from Kalamazoo's Aron Janko perfectly exampled the kind of half Kingdom was having, as he launched a shot from over 20 yards out and scored past goalkeeper Amaya Abraham. 

The second half featured much of the same, despite a fiery halftime speech by Barca Elite's David Arnaiz to his club, as Kalamazoo continued to attack offensively. Kalamazoo tacked on a couple more goals, with another added by Trevisan and Hayden Carmine. 

Force Football Club Academy U16 (MI) 2-0 Atlanta Fire United U16 (GA)

Force Football Club Academy imposes its offensive will against the Atlanta Fire, as they controlled the ball for most of the contest in a 2-0 victory Saturday morning. 

Michelle Herring for Force Football was all over the field and helped setup the game's first goal. Herring had some early chances to score, but we're not able to get by stingy Atlanta goalkeeper Itzel Santoyo, who made numerous saves in the first half. Force got its first score from Herring, assisted by teammate Amy Babon. 

 

Force nearly scored again late in the first half on a free kick just on the edge of the box by forward Martiana Kameryn Szalay, which just went inches over the crossbar. 

The Michigan-based club would put the game out of reach in the second half, as they received their second goal from Alexis Finanzzo. Force Football had 12 shots on goal compared to the Atlanta Fire, which only had one. 

Washington Spirit Academy U16 (VA) 1-1 DDYSC Wolves U16 (GA)

In one of the more even matchups on the day features Virginia's Washington Spirit Academy taking on Georgia's DDYSC Wolves. Both teams battled for ball control, with each team getting equal scoring opportunities. 

 

Washington had the upper hand early on, as they got some high quality shots against DDYSC goalkeeper Stephanie Vigezzi, who made a few impressive saves throughout the game. The Wolves' defense finally broke down in the latter part of the first half when Washington's Casey Flynn scored on a goal assisted by forward Alisha Holcombe. 

Armed with a 1-0 advantage, Washington's defense started to really tighten up, as the Wolves were finding shots on goal hard to come by in the second half of play. 

 

DDSYC was able to tie the game up at one apiece with about 10 minutes to go, when midfielder Annalise Ballou was setup for a goal by Maggie Carlton. The game would end in a tie, with neither team posing any real scoring threats in the final minutes. 

Met Oval U18 (NY) 3-0 A3 Soccer U18 (MD)

In the U18 boys bracket, A3 Soccer out of Annapolis, Maryland matched up with Met Oval from New York City, New York. Both clubs were fairly even in terms of play, evident by the scoreless opening half of play. 

A3 Soccer had a couple scoring opportunities, but were also being called offsides plenty of times by officials. One of A3's best chances came when forward Taylor Gray went one on one with goalkeeper Gianfranco Barone, but missed wide left. 

Met Oval also had its shares of missed shots on goal in the first half, as they totaled seven shots and were teased by some seemingly open players, only to be flagged for offsides. The boys from NYC, though, would eventually wake up and open up a scoring barrage in the second half. Alexis Santa jump-started the trifecta of scores on a very impressive, long-range shot from over 20 yards out. Santa's goal was followed by another long distance shot by fellow teammate Joseph Antonino, assisted by Miguel Chung.

 

The final goal came from defender Angel Serrano, who had an easy tap in and was assisted on the last score by Jesus Patino. 

FCSC United SYL U18 (VA) 3-2 Northern Virginia Majestics U18 (VA)

 

Likely one of the more entertaining U18 games on the day came between FCSC United SYL and Northern Virginia Majestics of Virginia. In what seemed like a contest that would be primarily low scoring and dependent on defense, both halves proved contrasting in every way.

 

The opening half, both teams juggled for possession, as the clubs were obviously comparable in talent. FCSC's Emily Yergin was the first to have a real crack at scoring, with the forward's shot sailing just wide right of the goal. Later on, Northern Virginia took its chance on a breakaway by Alexeis Kimos, who's shot also went wide right as well.

 

First score of the contest occurred late in the first half, when Majestics' forward Sarah Mitchell got behind FCSC's defense and headed in a goal, assisted by Kimos.

 

The second half featured four goals and scoring happened fast and furiously. FCSC's Sedona Bisek slipped past defenders and tied up the game at 1-1 all. Yergin would get in on the scoring and put FCSC up 2-1 midway through. In the final 15 minutes of play, back and forth action took place, as Grace Rangel tied the Majestics up once again, 2-2. Final goal of the contest came from Bisek for the second time, as the midfielder scored the go-ahead winner.
