TDS Combines Chicago Boys Best XI
It was a windy day in Schaumburg, Illinois for the Chicago combine. Top talent and programs from the region were in attendance and put their best foot forward. Here are the boys who stood out above others.
Cade Fink- Goalkeeper- Chicago Fire Raiders Elite- 2017- Fink is a quality keeper who showed a great understanding of the position. He is extremely competitive and constantly surprised everyone with amazing saves. He has solid footwork and an impressive extension on his dives. Fink came out well for crosses and rarely gave away rebounds.
Don Cam McNeil- Defender- Vardar- 2017- McNiel constantly impressed through his composed play and calmness on the ball. He is incredibly athletic and sees the game well. He can play anywhere on the backline due to his strong, athletic build and 1v1 defending ability. McNiel has all of the physical attributes and technical know how to make it at the next level.
Matt Solem- Defender- Chicago Magic PSG- 2018- Solem showed a great ability to maintain possession for his team by utilizing his dribbling and passing skills. He makes smart decisions under pressure, never giving up the ball and putting pressure on his defense. He did well in 1v1 defensive situations and showed a good understanding of when to tackle and when to delay. Solem has great potential to be a great college player if he continues to fine tune his game.
William Perkins- Defender- Vardar Development Academy- 2018- Perkins is an incredibly athletic center back who is confident on the ball and in the tackle. He is fluid with the ball, often taking clean smart touches and playing accurate passes. Perkins plays well in tight spaces and showed excellent recovery speed. His size may lead him towards an outside back role, but he can excel in any defensive position.
Sean Gavin- Defender- Chicago Magic PSG- 2017-Gavin plays primarily on the outside and does it well. He is strong when using his body and is smart in possession. He is confident on the dribble and plays accurate passes to feet. Gavin has a great understanding of when to tackle and when to delay in 1v1 situations. During the full field games, Gavin was the most vocal player on the field.
Harrison Curran- Midfielder- FC Wisconsin Nationals- 2018- Curran was the best player on in his group due to his control over the game and ability to make others play at his pace. He is a top notch passer and always takes a dangerous first touch. He is calm in traffic because he is always a step ahead of everyone else. Curran dominated play in small sided sessions and always made the right plays in the full field games. Watch out for this one.
Danny Cleary- Midfielder- Sockers FC- 2017- Cleary is an all-around box-to-box midfielder who can slot in to any role. He is comfortable with the ball at his feet, can play a mean pass, and understands where to take his first touch to relieve pressure. He is good when in tight spaces and showed a good understanding of the game. Cleary will play at the next level with a few simple tweaks and advancements to his game over the next couple of years.
Anthony Saporito- Midfielder- Chicago Magic PSG- 2018- Saporito constantly threatened the opposing team by his ability to run at defenders and pick out defense splitting passes. He is very technical in his first touch, always keeping it close to his body. Saporito does very well to create opportunities from tight spaces for himself and teammates. He really has great potential at the collegiate level if he continues to progress.
Matthew Lencioni- Midfielder- Waza FC- 2017- Lencioni is a solid defensive midfielder who is a bulldog in the center of the park. He plays quick, simple, and decisive. His passes are smooth and his first touch is always away from pressure. When deployed on the outside, Lencioni displayed his versatility by consistently getting up and down the line and willingness to run at players.
Matteo Mangiardi- Forward- 2017- Mangiardi showed an excellent engine along the front line and an ability to use both feet. He is good at taking players on 1v1 and scored goals with his right and left feet. Mangiardi has a good understanding of the game, especially when to pass, shoot and dribble. He has potential at the next level due to his smart and agile movement off the ball which allows him to pick up dangerous space.
Kyle Hayes- Forward- Vardar- 2017- Hayes constantly moves across the line and is a handful for any defender. He makes smart, sharp runs. Hayes has great ability to combine with teammates and to hit the target with every shot. In the full field games, he hit a great long distance goal. Hayes is devastatingly quick over 10 yards and has an engine that doesn’t quit.
