TDS Unsigned Showcase alumnus commits
Danielle Forsyth, Forward, Texas Rush
Class: 2018
Commitment: Sam Houston State
Since starting the Unsigned Showcases three years ago, TopDrawerSoccer has helped over 250 players commit to play in college. Unsigned Showcase Dallas 2014 alumus Danielle Forsyth is a prime example of the effectiveness of the event and opportunities the showcase offers to players.
“It was November (2014) at TopDrawerSoccer’s Unsigned Showcase in Dallas. I was a freshman and this was my very first ID camp," Forsyth said about her experience with the Unsigned Showcase. "I was able to get in the small group with Matt Armstrong, the assistant coach at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas."
"Sam Houston was definitely one of my top picks for college," Forsyth continued. "Their soccer team is great and close to my home where my parents could watch most of my games. I want to be a special education teacher when I graduate and it is the best college in the country for my major.”
The Unsigned Showcase caps the event at 150 players making the event intimate and allowing coaches to get to know players on a personal level as well as a soccer level. The connection between the coaches and scouts helps develop bonds quickly and also leaves lasting impressions on the players.
“The TDS Unsigned Showcase allowed me to play in a relaxed, fun environment while giving me exposure to many different college coaches, most importantly the one from Sam Houston State," Forsyth said. "I was able to get to know Matt that day and not soon after was invited to their campus for a visit."
The connection between Forsyth and the staff at Sam Houston State quickly paved the way for her to give her verbal commitment to join the local program.
“I committed to Sam Houston State a year later and couldn't be happier," Forsyth said. "I know for a fact that if I hadn't attended TopDrawerSoccer’s Unsigned Showcase that day my college soccer plans would have turned out differently. I would have still hopefully played in college but possibly not with a D-I soccer scholarship and definitely would not have found such an ideal fit for me both academically and athletically. Thank you again to TopDrawerSoccer for creating a perfect opportunity that for me was life changing.”
Colleges who attend the Unsigned Showcase are actively recruiting for certain positions and age groups; for coaches, it is a great opportunity to work closely with players who are realistic potential for their team.
