U20 MNT Wraps up Group Stage With 1-0 Win
After an off-field distruption forced a schedule chance, the United States Under-20 MNT saw its final group game switched to Friday.
And while the resulting matchup wasn't pretty, the 1-0 result against Costa Rica meant a perfect finish to its group stage journey.
Niko Tsakiris' first-half goal in the 37th minute provided the difference. The San Jose Earthquakes midfielder was also on the end of a brutal challenge at the second of the second half, which reduced Costa Rica to 10 players.
A stout defensive effort kept Costa Rica without a shot from goal.
Saturday’s Group C results to confirm its opponent for Tuesday’s quarterfinal, and a spot in the 2025 U20 World Cup.Salvador, who finished third in Group B, Guatemala or Haiti, who will play for third place in Group C on Saturday evening, are all possibilities.
U.S. Lineup: Adam Beaudry; Diden Harangi, Noah Cobb, Stuart Hawkins, Nolan Norris; Nikolas Tsakiris (Cruz Medina), Brooklyn Raines, Pedro Soma (Taha Habroune); Ruben Ramos (Nimfasha Berchimas), Marcos Zambrano (Keyrol Figueroa), David Vazquez (Zavier Gozo)
