US Youth: Frontier Conference continues
The 2020-21 US Youth Soccer Frontier Conference season continued over the weekend, as 30 North Texas, South Texas and Oklahoma teams across the 15U-19U Boys and 15U, 18U and 19U Girls age groups competed at Harold Patterson Soccer Complex in Arlington, Texas.
Looking back at this weekend, there were a number of matchups that saw teams put in strong performances to get victories and secure an early spot at the top of the standings. Teams in the Frontier Conference continue to compete for qualification into the 2021 USYS Southern Regional Championships, as well as qualification into the 2021-22 USYS National League Playoffs.
In the 16U Boys age group, FC Dallas 05B North Blue (TX-N) took on Houston Dynamo Little United (TX-S) on Saturday, with both teams coming into the match up after winning their conference season openers.
After a first half that saw neither team generate many chances, FC Dallas came out strong with a goal in the first minute of the second half. Carlos Sanchez won the ball for FC Dallas in the midfield and got it to Sam Matz who put a nice through ball to Garrett Wilkens down the left side. Garrett beat the right back and his cross was headed into the net by Mikey Lara from short range. Houston tied up the game in the 65th minute, but FC Dallas was able to regain the lead moments later. FC Dallas’s Sam Matz sent a through ball down the center of the field to Victor Hernandez, who was able to fight off the central defender to send a far post shot into the back of the net.
“We were able to hold them off in the first half with strong defense,” FC Dallas Youth 05B North Blue head coach Jorge Molina said. “We found the needed offensive rhythm and focus in the second half that generated the opportunities that led to our two scores and the victory.”
Molina also talked about the team’s goals for this season and how they plan to use their experience in the Frontier Conference last season to help achieve those goals.
“Some of our goals this season include winning Classic League, qualifying for Dallas Cup, winning the Frontier Conference, and playing in the 2021 USYS Southern Regional Championships,” Molina said. “Winning the Frontier Conference would accomplish two of those four goals. In the Frontier Conference, we look forward to our two games in Austin in October in order to come out with two victories. We had two trips to Austin for the Frontier Conference last fall and they were two very different weekends. The first weekend resulted in two FC Dallas victories, while the next visit resulted in two losses. We expect wins when we travel to Austin this October.”
FC Dallas 05B North Blue (TX-N) will take on D'Feeters Kicks SC 05 Carrillo (TX-N) this Wednesday at MoneyGram Soccer Park. Both teams are undefeated within the Frontier Conference this season and will be looking for the victory to secure an early top spot in the standings.
The next Frontier Conference hosted event will be Oct. 10-11 at the Gosling Sports Fields in The Woodlands, Texas, and will include teams from the 14U-19U Boys and 15U Girls age groups.
