Monday marks the beginning of the Concacaf Under-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying competition.

The expanded nature of the competition opens the door for four Concacaf nations to make this year’s women’s youth World Cup.

Twelve teams will compete in three groups of four for the spot. The first-place winners and best-place second place team will claim Concacaf’s spots. Given the new nature of the tournament, there is no knockout phase or regional champ crowned.

As has become commonplace in girls soccer, players based in the United States are set to represent other countries. In total, nine countries will have at least one U.S.-based player on their roster. More than 60 players from ECNL, GIrls Academy and beyond will compete for another country.
