The U.S. U17 Men’s National Tea cruised into the quarterfinals of the 2019 U17 Concacaf Championship on Thursday with an 8-0 win over Guadeloupe. USA returns to action on Sunday in the quarterfinal against Panama. The winner of that game claims one of the four spots allotted to the region for the Youth World Cup later this year.

Thursday’s Round of 16 tilt was over in the opening 10 minutes. Guadeloupe looked overmatched against a US side that has looked sharper in every game in the competition. A lengthy weather delay in the first half was pretty much the only thing that slowed down USA.

Seattle Sounders forward Alfonso Ocampo Chavez scored the first goal of the game only a minute after the teams returned to the field after the thunderstorm delay. Giovanni Reyna scored three goals in the first half. D.C. United’s Griffin Yow and Sporting KC’s Gianluca Busio also scored in the opening half. Joseph Scally, Adam Saldana, Yow, and Reyna added assists.

Ocampo Chavez added another goal in the second half off an assist from substitute Ricardo Pepi. An own goal from Guadeloupe rounded out the scoring.
