USSF looks ahead with the U17 MNT
The clock is ticking.
Although the 2013 U17 World Cup has not even started yet, the attention for the U.S. Soccer Federation has already turned to the 2015 U17 World Cup.
Over the course of last week, U17 MNT head coach Richie Williams led 44 players at the StubHub Center for the final camp with this age group before he and his staff sends out the invites for the next semester of the Residency Program.
“I knew about half of the group from working with them with our younger national teams,” Williams told TopDrawerSoccer.com about the camp. “The other half I did not know, so a lot of [the week] was about evaluation and putting them through the scenarios and exercises we do at Residency. It was about putting them in that environment and see how they would do.
“We have to pick 32 for Residency and 20 for Mexico. It was a good week. I thought everyone did well.”
The Mexico event kicks off next week, as the U17 Men’s National Team heads to Mexico City for an international tournament with games against Brazil, Uruguay, Panama in group play.
This is the second trip for the 1998 age group this year, as the group went to Italy in March. The players think that experience will help them in Mexico.
